About the Willamette Chapter – Oregon Nordic Club

The Willamette Chapter of the Oregon Nordic Club (ONC) brings the joy of cross-country skiing to residents of the mid-Willamette Valley—and beyond. While most of our members live locally in the areas around Salem, Corvallis, Albany, Eugene, and Springfield, skiers from other regions are always welcome.

Why We Ski

For those who love the feeling of gliding over snow, the quiet beauty of a snow-covered forest, and the peaceful solitude of winter landscapes, cross-country skiing offers a deeply rewarding experience. There’s nothing quite like making your own tracks in fresh snow and pausing to take in the stillness and wonder of nature.

Beyond the beauty, Nordic skiing is also one of the most healthful outdoor activities. It’s a full-body, low-impact workout that’s as gentle or as challenging as you want it to be—great for both body and soul.

Our Skiing Style

Our members enjoy a variety of Nordic skiing styles, including:

  • Touring
  • Backcountry
  • Telemark
  • Freestyle

While skate skiing is less emphasized in our chapter, it is available through other ONC chapters. Our outings range from groomed trails to ungroomed backcountry terrain, including steep slopes and off-trail adventures. Skill levels vary by trip, and each outing is rated to help you choose the right fit.

We frequently ski in areas such as:

  • Santiam Pass
  • Jefferson Wilderness
  • Mt. Hood
  • Bend/Mt. Bachelor
  • And occasionally venture farther to places like the Ochocos, Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Adams, the Wallowas, and Crater Lake.

Ski School & Learning Opportunities

Each January, we offer a Ski School designed especially for first-time skiers. After the school, we host beginner-friendly practice trips to help you build confidence on the snow. As you continue skiing with the club, you’ll naturally improve your skills—with plenty of tips and encouragement from fellow members.
